In memory of my beloved mother-in-law Jean, who has been a constant reassuring presence in my life for the past 50 years, radiating love through the good times and the bad. From the beginning she welcomed me into the Donkin household with open arms and taught Mike and I so much about how to bring up a family. I remember her joy as she effortlessly made light pastry, enormous Yorkshires and juicy rock cakes. She spent hours at the kitchen sink or on her knees tidying up toys and never minded when the job had to be done all over again. Our holidays in France with Jean and Wally were filled with fun and laughter as she explored rock pools, built sandcastles and ate ice cream with the grandchildren. I loved listening to her stories about her time as an evacuee, in the WRNS and family life with her dear Mum and Dad Lily and Frank - and sisterly rivalry with Betty. Jean was loving, kind, humble and sweet - the perfect mother-in-law and I feel privileged to have been part of her life.
